Park Brake Pedal Assembly Replacement

- J 37043 Parking Brake Cable Release Tool

Removal Procedure

Important: The automatic adjustment park brake pedal assembly and the front park brake cable are serviced as a unit. The front park brake cable has no threads and is not adjustable.





1. Raise and suitably support the vehicle.
2. Pull down on the intermediate park brake cable near the park brake connector (2).
3. Remove the front park brake cable from the cable connector (1).
4. Using J 37043 remove the park brake cable from the floor retainer
5. Lower the vehicle.
6. Remove the left closeout/insulator panel to access the park brake lever assembly.
7. Remove the left carpet retainer.





8. Pull the carpet back to expose the park brake cable.
9. Remove the grommet from the floor pan.





10. Disconnect the electrical connector from the park brake warning lamp switch.





11. Remove the park brake lever assembly attaching nuts.
12. Remove the park brake lever and cable assembly from the vehicle.

Installation Procedure





1. Install the park brake cable grommet to the floor pan.
2. Install the park brake lever and cable assembly to the mounting studs.

Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.

3. Install the park brake lever assembly attaching nuts.
^ Tighten the park brake lever nuts to 24 Nm (18 ft. lbs.).
4. Connect the electrical connector to the park brake warning lamp switch.
5. Install the carpet.





6. Raise the vehicle.
7. Connect the front park brake cable (3) to the park brake cable connector (1) on the Intermediate park brake cable (2).
8. Lower the vehicle.





9. To set tension in the park brake cable system, twist and pull down on the tension release pin (1) to remove.
10. Apply the park brake pedal 3 full cycles to complete the tension set.
11. Install the left carpet retainer.
12. Install the left sound insulator panel.
