IP Retainer Replacement
Removal Procedure
Caution: Refer to SIR Caution in Cautions and Notices.
1. Disable the SIR system. Refer to Disabling the SIR System in SIR.
2. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnect/Connect Procedure in Engine Electrical.
3. Remove left insulator panel. Refer to Closeout/Insulator Panel Replacement - Left (Service and Repair) .
4. Remove right insulator panel. Refer to Closeout/Insulator Panel Replacement - Right (Closeout/Insulator Panel Replacement - Right) .
5. Remove the IP outer trim covers. Refer to Instrument Panel (IP) Outer Trim Cover Replacement (Instrument Panel (IP) - Outer Trim Cover Replacement) .
6. Remove the IP upper trim pad. Refer to Trim Pad Replacement - IP Upper (Service and Repair) .
7. Remove the center console. Refer to Console Replacement - Front Floor (Console Replacement - Front Floor) .
8. Remove the radio. Refer to Radio Replacement (w/o UM8) Radio Replacement (w UM8) in Entertainment.
9. Remove the HVAC control module assembly. Refer to HVAC Control Module Replacement in HVAC Systems Automatic.
10. Remove the drivers information center.
11. Remove the knee bolster. Refer to Knee Bolster Replacement (Service and Repair) .
12. Remove the knee bolster brackets. Refer to Bracket Replacement - Knee Bolster (Service and Repair) .
13. Remove the fasteners securing the steering column to the IP carrier, lower and position the column out of the way. Refer to Steering Column Replacement in Steering.
14. Remove the IP cluster.
15. Remove the valet switch.
16. Remove the IP storage compartment. Refer to Storage Compartment Replacement - IP (Instrument Panel Storage Compartment - Replacement) .
17. Disconnect the center IP to body electrical harness connector.
18. Disconnect the right IP to body electrical harness connector.
19. Disconnect the left IP to body electrical harness connector.
20. Remove fasteners securing the IP retainer to IP carrier.
21. Remove the IP retainer from the carrier, feed wiring through openings as necessary.
22. If the IP retainer is to be replaced, transfer all necessary components.
Installation Procedure
1. Position the IP retainer to the carrier, feeding the wiring through the openings as removed.
Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Cautions and Notices.
2. Install the IP retainer fasteners in order to secure the IP retainer to the carrier.
Tighten the fasteners to 2 N.m (18 lb in).
3. Connect the left IP to body electrical harness connector.
4. Connect the right IP to body electrical harness connector.
5. Connect the center IP to body electrical harness connector.
6. Install the IP storage compartment. Refer to Storage Compartment Replacement - IP (Instrument Panel Storage Compartment - Replacement) .
7. Install the valet switch.
8. Install the IP cluster.
9. Install the steering column. Refer to Steering Column Replacement in Steering Wheel and Column-Tilt.
10. Install the knee bolster brackets. Refer to Bracket Replacement - Knee Bolster (Service and Repair) .
11. Install the knee bolster. Refer to Knee Bolster Replacement (Service and Repair) .
12. Install the drivers information center.
13. Install the HVAC control module assembly. Refer to HVAC Control Module Replacement in HVAC Systems Automatic.
14. Install the radio. Refer to Radio Replacement (w/o UM8) Radio Replacement (w UM8) in Entertainment.
15. Install the center console. Refer to Console Replacement - Front Floor (Console Replacement - Front Floor) .
16. Install the IP upper trim pad. Refer to Trim Pad Replacement - IP Upper (Service and Repair) .
17. Install the IP outer trim covers. Refer to Instrument Panel (IP) Outer Trim Cover Replacement (Instrument Panel (IP) - Outer Trim Cover Replacement) .
18. Install right insulator panel. Refer to Closeout/Insulator Panel Replacement - Right (Closeout/Insulator Panel Replacement - Right) .
19. Install left insulator panel. Refer to Closeout/Insulator Panel Replacement - Left (Service and Repair) .
20. Connect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnect/Connect Procedure in Engine Electrical.
21. Enable the SIR system. Refer to Enabling the SIR System in SIR.
