Automatic Transmission Shift Lock Actuator Replacement

Removal Procedure





1. Place the transmission range control in PARK (P).
2. Remove the left closeout insulator panel.
3. Loosen the left front carpet to allow access to the park lock cable routing

Important Do not attempt to perform this step with the ignition key in any other position except RUN.

4. Remove the four steering column bolts and lower the steering column.
5. Turn the ignition key to RUN position.
6. Slip a flat head screwdriver blade into the slot provided in the ignition switch inhibitor. Depress the able latch and pull the park lock cable from the inhibitor.
7. Remove the radio and console trim plates.





8. Remove the park lock cable at the transmission range control assembly.
9. Remove the park lock cable from the vehicle.

Installation Procedure





1. Using a flat head screwdriver, pry the lock button of the park lock cable into the UNLOCKED position (14).
2. Install the park lock cable at the transmission range control assembly. DO NOT attach the cable end to the pin on the control lever.

Important Do not attempt to perform this step with the ignition key in any other position except RUN.

3. With the transmission range control assembly in PARK (P) and the ignition key in RUN position, snap the park lock cable into the inhibitor housing.
4. Turn the ignition key to LOCK position.





5. Snap the cable end onto the pin of the transmission range control lever (4).
6. Push the park lock cable towards the range control lever assembly in order to remove the slack.
7. Push the lock button on the park lock cable down into the LOCKED position.
8. Inspect the park lock cable as follows:
^ With the range control lever in PARK (P) and the ignition key in the LOCK position, make sure that the range control lever cannot move to another position. The ignition key should be removable from the lock cylinder.
^ Turn the ignition key to RUN position and move the range control lever to NEUTRAL (N). Make sure that the ignition key cannot be turned to the LOCK position.
^ If the above checks are OK, proceed to Step 9. If the above checks are NOT OK, readjust the park lock cable.
9. Raise the steering column and install the four bolts.
10. Install the console trim plate.
11. Install the left closeout insulator panel.
12. Secure the left front carpet.
