Brake Pads Replacement - Front
Brake Pads Replacement - FrontRemoval Procedure
1. Remove 2/3 of the brake fluid from the master cylinder.
2. Raise the vehicle and suitably support. Refer to Vehicle Lifting.
3. Remove the Wheel.
4. Install a large C-clamp over the body of the brake caliper with the C-clamp ends against the rear of the caliper body and against the outer brake pad.
5. Tighten the C-clamp until the caliper piston is compressed into the caliper bore enough to allow the caliper to slide past the brake rotor.
6. Remove the C-clamp from the caliper.
7. Remove the bottom caliper slide pin.
8. Pivot the caliper body upward.
9. Remove the inboard and outboard pads from the anchor bracket.
10. Remove and inspect the pad retainers.
11. Install a large C-clamp over the body of the brake caliper with the C-clamp ends against the rear of the caliper body and against an old inner brake pad or a wood block installed against the caliper piston.
12. Tighten the C-clamp until the caliper piston is compressed completely into the caliper bore.
13. Remove the C-clamp and the old brake pad or wood block from the caliper.
Installation Procedure
Important: Do not attempt to clean away corrosion. Corrosion is typically caused by damaged pin boots.
1. Inspect the caliper bolt suspension boots for cuts, tears, or deterioration. If damaged, replace the pin boots.
2. Inspect the caliper pin bolts for damage or corrosion. Replace if damaged or corroded.
3. Inspect the piston boot for deterioration, replace if damaged.
4. Install the brake pad retainers into the brake caliper bracket.
5. Install both brake pads into the brake caliper bracket.
6. Pivot the caliper down over the brake pads and into the brake caliper bracket.
Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.
7. Insert the lower caliper slide pin.
Tighten the caliper slide pin to 85 Nm (63 ft. lbs.).
8. Install the tire and wheel assembly.
9. Lower the vehicle.
10. With the engine OFF, gradually apply the brake pedal to approximately 2/3 of its travel distance.
11. Slowly release the brake pedal.
12. Wait 15 seconds, then repeat steps 10-11 until a firm brake pedal apply is obtained; this will properly seat the brake caliper pistons and brake pads.
13. Refill the brake fluid.
14. Burnish the pads and rotors.
