Bulletin No.: 00-08-48-004

Date: November, 2000

Subject:
Thump/Flutter Type Noise From Lower Rear Window Reveal Molding Area
(Install Rear Window Seal)

Models:
2001 Oldsmobile Aurora

Condition
Some customers may comment that while driving in hot weather at highway speeds, a thumping/fluttering type noise coming from the lower rear window reveal molding area can be heard.

Customers may also comment on hearing an exhaust moan/boom type noise.

Cause
This condition may be due to high outside temperatures affecting the lower rear window reveal molding. While driving at highway speeds, the wind deflects the molding causing it to flutter/vibrate against the rear compartment lid.

Correction
Install the rear window seal, P/N 25727951, under the lower rear window reveal molding.

Repair Procedure

1. Open the rear compartment lid.

2. Use a 50/50 mixture of isopropyl alcohol and water by volume on a dampened lint-free cloth to clean the vehicle body surface (1) underneath the lower window reveal molding from one side of the vehicle to the other.

3. Install the rear window seal.

3.1. From one end of the foam seal, peel back a portion of the protective backing paper.

3.2. At the LH/RH corner of the lower rear window reveal molding, lift up both layers and begin installation of the seal (adhesive side tot he vehicle body) approximately 2.54 cm (1 in) from the end of the corner.

3.3. Tuck the seal (2) up under the bottom layer of the lower rear window reveal molding and press firmly.

3.4. Continue this process along the entire length of the lower rear window reveal molding ending approximately 2.54 cm (1 in) from the end of the opposite corner.
