Throttle Body Assembly Replacement

REMOVAL PROCEDURE





NOTE: Do Not use solvent of any type when cleaning the gasket surfaces on the intake manifold and the throttle body assembly, as damage to the gasket surfaces and throttle body assembly may result.

Use care in cleaning the gasket surfaces on the intake manifold and the throttle body assembly, as sharp tools may damage the gasket surfaces.

1. Remove the injector sight shield.
2. Drain the radiator coolant.
3. Remove the air intake tube.




4. Disconnect the electrical connector from the idle air control (IAC) valve sensor.




5. Disconnect the electrical connector from the mass air flow (MAF) sensor.




6. Disconnect the electrical connector from the throttle position (TP) sensor.




7. Disconnect the accelerator controls cable.




8. Remove the accelerator controls cable bracket.




9. Disconnect the electrical harness retainer clip (1) and the harness (2) from the accelerator control cable bracket (3).




10. Disconnect the vacuum line from the throttle body.

Throttle Body Assembly:

11. Remove the throttle body support bracket.




12. Remove the nuts and bolts that retain the throttle body to the intake manifold. Use a wrench on the manifold side of the inserts in order to prevent the inserts from rotating in the manifold casting.
13. Remove the throttle body assembly.
14. Clean the gasket surface on the intake manifold and the throttle body assembly.

INSTALLATION PROCEDURE





IMPORTANT: The throttle should operate freely without binding between full closed and wide open throttle.

1. Install the new gasket, and new inserts and studs if necessary.
2. Install the throttle body assembly.

NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.

3. Install the throttle body retaining nuts and bolts (3).

Tighten
Tighten the nuts and bolts to 10 N.m (88 lb in).




4. Install the accelerator controls cable bracket.




5. Connect the accelerator controls cable.
6. Test for proper throttle opening and closing by operating the accelerator pedal. Also inspect for proper carpet fit under the accelerator pedal.




7. Connect the electrical harness retainer clip (1) and the harness (2) to the accelerator control cable bracket (3).




8. Connect the vacuum line to the throttle body.




9. Connect the electrical connector to the IAC valve sensor.




10. Connect the electrical connector to the MAF sensor.




11. Connect the electrical connector to the TP sensor.
12. Install the air intake tube.
13. Refill the radiator.




14. Install the injector sight shield.
