Fuel Tank Leak Check
NOTICE:^ Before attempting the Fuel Tank Leak Check place a dry chemical (Class B) fire extinguisher near the work area.
^ Before removing the fuel tank for a suspected leak, make sure the fuel hoses are not leaking onto the tank. Also, make sure fuel is not leaking around the fuel sender gasket.
1. Relieve the fuel system pressure. Refer to Fuel Pressure Relief Procedure.
2. Remove the fuel tank. Refer to Fuel Tank replacement
3. Plug all of the outlets as follows:
^ Install the tiller neck and the vent hoses, the upper neck assembly, and the filler cap.
^ Install the fuel tank sender with the seal and plug the fuel lines.
^ Install a short piece of fuel line on the fuel tank meter vent tube.
4. Apply approximately 7 to 10 kPa (1 to 1.5 psi) air pressure to the tank through the vent tube. Pinch the fuel filler hose in order to retain the air pressure.
5. Test the suspect area for leaks with a soap solution or by submersion. If a leak is noted, replace the tank. Refer to Fuel Tank Replacement.
