Lock Replacement - Rear Door
IMPORTANT: Do not attempt to repair a faulty door lock. Replace the lock.The door locks use the fork bolt lock design which includes a safety interlock feature. The door is secured in a closed position when the door lock fork bolt engages the striker. Rotate the lock knob rearward to unlock the door from the inside.
Removal Procedure
1. Remove the trim panel.
2. Remove the door water deflector.
3. Remove the outside handle rod from the lock. Cut the lock rod clip with a pair of side cutters. Unscrew and discard the remainder of the clip from the rod.
4. Remove the rods from the inner door handle.
5. Remove the rods from the anti rattle clip.
6. Remove the screws (1, 2, 3) securing the lock to the rear door.
7. Reposition the lock
8. Disconnect the electrical connector(s).
9. Remove the rear door lock with the inside handle rods attached.
10. Remove the inside handle rods from the lock.
Installation Procedure
1. Install the inside handle rods to the lock.
2. Install a new clip to the lock.
3. Position the door lock to the door.
4. Install the door lock electrical connectors.
5. Install the lock to the door.
IMPORTANT: Use Loctite(R) Blue GM P/N 123453852 or the equivalent prior to the fastener installation.
NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.
6. Loosely install the three screws (1, 2, 3) mounting the door lock.
Tighten
Tighten the door lock screws in sequence (1, 2, 3) to 10 N.m (89 lb in).
7. Install the inside handle rods into the anti rattle clip.
8. Position the outside handle rod in the new clip eliminating the free play from the handle.
9. Snap the clip closed over the threaded portion of the rod.
10. Install the outside handle rod.
11. Install the rear door water deflector.
12. Install the rear door inner trim panel.
