Instrument Panel (IP) - Trim Pad Replacement




REMOVAL PROCEDURE

CAUTION: Before servicing any electrical component, the ignition key must be in the OFF or LOCK position and all electrical loads must be OFF unless instructed otherwise in these procedures. If a tool or equipment could easily come in contact with a live exposed electrical terminal, also disconnect the negative battery cable. Failure to follow these precautions may cause personal injury and/or damage to the vehicle or its components.

CAUTION: This vehicle has a Supplemental Inflatable Restraint (SIR) System. Refer to SIR Component Views in order to determine whether you are performing service on or near the SIR components or the SIR wiring. When you are performing service on or near the SIR components or the SIR wiring, refer to Repair Instructions in SIR. Failure to follow the CAUTIONS could cause air bag deployment, personal injury, or unnecessary SIR system repairs.


1. Disconnect the battery ground (negative) cable.
2. Disable the SIR system.
3. Remove the RH and LH instrument panel access hole covers.
4. Remove the instrument panel insulators.
5. Remove the data link connector.
6. Remove the front carpet retainers.
7. Remove the windshield side upper garnish moldings.
8. Remove the instrument panel upper trim panel.
9. Remove the front floor console.
10. Remove the steering column opening filler.
11. Remove the knee bolster bracket.
12. Remove the bolts/screws from the lower steering column.
13. Remove the nuts from the upper steering column.
14. Lower the steering column.
15. Remove the hood release handle.
16. Remove the instrument panel cluster trim plate.
17. Remove the instrument panel cluster.
18. Remove the instrument panel accessory trim plate.
19. Remove the radio.
20. Remove the heater A/C control.
21. Remove the ignition switch.
22. Remove the hazard warning and cruise control switch.
23. Remove the switch bank.
24. Remove the instrument panel compartment.
25. Remove the instrument panel compartment lamp switch.
26. Reposition the fuse block.




27. Remove the air temperature sensor.
28. Remove the instrument panel trim pad mounting screws.




29. Reposition instrument panel wiring harness.
30. Remove the instrument panel trim pad from the vehicle.

INSTALLATION PROCEDURE



1. Align instrument panel trim pad to vehicle.
2. Reposition instrument panel wiring harness.




NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Cautions and Notices.

3. Install instrument panel trim pad mounting bolts/screws at the cluster pocket.

Tighten
Tighten the instrument panel trim pad mounting bolts/screws to 5 N.m (44 lb in).

4. Install the instrument panel trim pad mounting bolts/screws at windshield.

Tighten
Tighten the instrument panel trim pad mounting bolts/screws to 5 N.m (44 lb in).




5. Instrument panel trim pad mounting bolts/screws to compartment.

Tighten
Tighten the instrument panel trim pad mounting bolts/screws to 2 N.m (18 lb in).

6. Install the air temperature sensor.
7. Install the fuse block.
8. Install the instrument panel compartment lamp switch.
9. Install the instrument panel compartment.
10. Install the switch bank.
11. Install the ignition switch.
12. Install the hazard warning and cruise control switch.
13. Install the instrument panel cluster.
14. Install the heater A/C control.
15. Install the radio.
16. Install the instrument panel accessory trim plate.
17. Install the hood release handle.

NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Cautions and Notices.

18. Raise the steering column.
19. Install the nuts to the upper steering column.

Tighten
Tighten the upper steering column nuts to 24 N.m (18 lb ft).

20. Install the bolts/screws to the lower steering column.

Tighten
Tighten the lower steering column bolts/screws to 24 N.m (18 lb ft).

21. Install the knee bolster bracket.
22. Install the steering column opening filler.
23. Install the front floor console.
24. Install the instrument panel upper trim panel.
25. Install the windshield side upper garnish moldings.
26. Install the Instrument panel insulators.
27. Install the data link connector.
28. Install the front carpet retainers.
29. Install the RH and LH instrument panel access hole cover.
30. Enable SIR system.
31. Connect the battery ground (negative) cable.
