Seals and Gaskets: Service and Repair

Removal Procedure
1. Remove the appropriate drive axle. Refer to Wheel Drive Shafts Replacement in Drive Axles, Bearings and Joints.

Important: Do not to damage the transmission case cover/case extension when removing the seal with a screwdriver.





2. Remove the drive axle seal (125) or (37). First use a screwdriver to pry outer the seal from the transmission. Use pliers in order to remove the remaining housing of drive axle seal from the transmission.
3. Inspect the drive axle seal mating surface on the drive axle housing for corrosion, grooves or nicks.
4. Clean the drive axle seal mating surface on the drive axle housing with crocus cloth.

Installation Procedure

^ Tools Required
- J39051-1 Axle Shaft Seal Installer Set
- J39051-2 Axle Shaft Seal Installer Set

Important: Do not to damage the transmission case cover/case extension when installing the drive axle seal.





1. Install the drive axle seal (125)or (37) in the following way:
^ Install the right-hand drive axle seal using the J39051-1
^ Install the left-hand drive axle seal using the J39051-2

2. Install the drive axle. Refer to Drive Axles, Bearings and Joints.
