Differential: Service and Repair

Removal Procedure
1. Remove the case extension and set aside. Refer to Case Extension Replacement.
2. Remove the scavenger pipe and set aside.
3. Using a torque wrench, remove the 4 differential housing bolts. The transmission must be in P (Park) with the differential locked in place. If you can rotate the differential, turn the manual shaft counterclockwise to the P (Park) position. The actuator rod will stick out of the case.





4. Remove the differential housing.





5. Remove the following parts:
5.1. The snap ring
5.2. The left-side differential gear
5.3. The thrust washer





6. Remove the following parts:
6.1. The final drive carrier
6.2. The thrust bearing
6.3. The sun gear





7. Remove the snap ring and the final drive internal gear.





8. Remove the following parts:
8.1. The snap ring
8.2. The parking gear
8.3. The thrust bearing

Installation Procedure





1. Install the following parts:
1.1. The thrust bearing
1.2. The parking gear
1.3. The snap ring





2. Install the final drive internal gear and the snap ring.





3. Install the following parts:
3.1. The sun gear
3.2. The thrust bearing
3.3. The final drive carrier





4. Install the following parts:
4.1. The thrust washer
4.2. The left-side differential gear
4.3. The snap ring





5. Install the differential housing.
6. Install the 4 differential bolts.
7. Install the scavenger pipe.
8. Install the case extension. Refer to Case Extension Replacement.
