Throttle Body Spacer: Service and Repair

REMOVAL PROCEDURE




1. Relieve the fuel system pressure. Refer to the Fuel Pressure Relief Procedure.
2. Remove the intake air duct from the air cleaner housing.




3. Remove the MAF sensor electrical connector (2) from the MAF sensor (5).





NOTE: Do not damage the MAF sensor screen. A damaged screen could restrict airflow and lead to a driveability concern.

4. Remove the MAF sensor bolts.
5. Remove the MAF sensor and intake air duct as an assembly.




6. Remove the accelerator controls cable bracket.




7. Remove the throttle body.




8. Remove the throttle body-spacer bolts (a).




9. Remove the crankcase ventilation pipe at throttle body spacer.




10. Remove the EGR valve water pump crossover pipe at throttle body spacer.




11. Remove the throttle body spacer (3) and gasket (2) from the intake manifold (4).

NOTE:
^ Use care when cleaning the old gasket from the aluminum surfaces in order to prevent damage to the sealing surfaces.
^ Do not use a cleaner which contains methyl ethyl ketone. This extremely strong solvent may damage components and is not necessary for this type of cleaning.

Use a carburetor cleaner in order to remove deposits.

Refer to the instructions provided with the cleaner.

12. Clean the throttle body gasket surfaces.
13. Clean the throttle body spacer gasket surfaces.

INSTALLATION PROCEDURE





NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.

1. Install the throttle body spacer gasket (2) and throttle body spacer (3).

Tighten
Tighten the throttle body spacer attaching bolts to 12 N.m (106 lb in).




2. Install the new throttle body gasket.
3. Install the throttle body.

Tighten
Tighten the throttle body attaching bolts to 12 N.m (106 lb in).




4. Install the crankcase ventilation pipe at throttle body spacer.




5. Install the EGR valve water pump crossover pipe to throttle body spacer.

Tighten
Tighten the EGR pipe bolt to 24 N.m (18 lb ft).




6. Install the MAF sensor and intake air duct assembly.

Tighten
Tighten the bolts to 8 N.m (71 lb in).

7. Install the intake air duct clamp.

Tighten
Tighten the clamp (s) to 3.5 N.m (31 lb in) at the MAF sensor and 1.8 N.m (16 lb in) at the air cleaner.




8. Install the MAF sensor electrical connector (2) to the MAF sensor (5).




9. Install the accelerator controls cable bracket.




10. Install the intake manifold top cover.

Tighten
Tighten the nuts to 3 N.m (27 lb in).

11. Install the negative battery cable.
12. Install the rear seat cushion.
