Compressor Replacement

REMOVAL PROCEDURE

TOOLS REQUIRED
J 39500 Air Conditioning Refrigerant Recovery, Recycling and Recharging (ACR4) System




1. Recover the refrigerant from the A/C system. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging
2. Remove the accessory drive belt.
3. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
4. Remove the right wheelhouse liner.
5. Remove the lower air Deflector.
6. Disconnect the electrical connectors.
7. Remove the A/C compressor hose from the compressor.

Compressor Mounting:




8. Remove the front compressor mounting bolts.
9. Remove the rear bracket to engine block bolt.
10. Remove the compressor.




11. Remove the rear mounting bracket.

INSTALLATION PROCEDURE

TOOLS REQUIRED
J 39400-A Electronic Halogen Leak Detector

NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.




1. Install the rear compressor mounting bracket and bolts.

Tighten
Tighten the rear bolts to 24 N.m (18 lb ft).

Compressor Mounting:




2. Install the compressor, mounting bolts and nut.

Tighten
^ Tighten the front bolts to 50 N.m (37 lb ft).
^ Tighten the rear mounting nut to 25 N.m (18 lb ft).




3. Install the A/C compressor hose to the compressor.

Tighten
Tighten the bolt to 30 N.m (22 lb ft).

4. Connect the electrical connectors to the compressor.
5. Lower the vehicle.
6. Install the accessory drive belt.
7. Recharge the A/C system. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging
8. Using the J 39400-A leak test the A/C system. Refer to Leak Testing.
9. Install the right wheelhouse liner.
10. Install the lower air Deflector.
