Exhaust Manifold Replacement - Left

REMOVAL PROCEDURE

Caution: Refer to Battery Disconnect Caution in Service Precautions.

1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.





2. Remove the accessory drive belt from the power steering (1) and generator pulleys (2). Set the belt aside.
3. Remove the upper retaining bolt from the generator.
4. Raise the vehicle.
5. Remove the splash shield from the right wheel well.
6. Remove the lower center air deflector.
7. Remove the generator.
8. Set the generator aside.





9. Remove the left exhaust manifold (5) to exhaust crossover pipe (4) bolts.
10. Remove the electrical connector at the oxygen sensor.
11. Remove the power steering line retainers.





12. Remove the left exhaust manifold nuts.
13. Remove the left exhaust manifold.
14. Remove the left exhaust manifold gasket. Discard the gasket.
15. Remove the oxygen sensor from the manifold.


INSTALLATION PROCEDURE
1. Coat the threads of the oxygen sensor with high temperature anti-seize, P/N 5613695, or equivalent.

Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.

2. Install the oxygen sensor.
^ Tighten the oxygen sensor to 40 Nm (30 ft. lbs.).





3. Install the gasket to the cylinder head.
4. Install the exhaust manifold by inserting the outlet pipe partially into the exhaust crossover pipe. Move the exhaust manifold into position.
5. Install the exhaust manifold nuts.
^ Tighten the nuts to 25 Nm (18 ft. lbs.).

6. Install the electrical connector to the oxygen sensor.
7. Install the power steering line retainers.
8. Install the lower retaining bolt to the generator.
^ Tighten the retaining bolt to 50 Nm (37 ft. lbs.).

9. Install the generator rear bracket bolt and nut.
^ Tighten the generator bolt to 47 Nm (35 ft. lbs.).
^ Tighten the generator nut to 38 Nm (28 ft. lbs.).

10. Install the bolts at the manifold outlet flange. New fasteners are recommended for maximum joint integrity.
^ Tighten the flange bolts to 25 Nm (18 ft. lbs.).

11. Install the lower center air deflector.
12. Install the splash shield to the right wheel well.
13. Lower the vehicle.
14. Install the upper retaining bolt to the generator.
^ Tighten the generator bolt to 50 Nm (37 ft. lbs.).





15. Install the drive belt onto the power steering and generator pulleys.
