Timing Cover: Service and Repair

REMOVAL PROCEDURE
1. Remove the drive belt.
2. Remove the crankshaft balancer.





3. Remove the drive belt tensioner (6).
4. Remove the drive belt idler pulley (3).





5. Remove the engine front cover bolts.
6. Remove the engine front cover.
7. Remove the engine front cover gasket. The gasket is reusable. Do not discard.


INSTALLATION PROCEDURE
1. Place a small daub of RTV sealant at the split line of the upper and lower crankcases.





2. Place the engine front cover gasket over the crankcase dowel pins.
3. Place the engine front cover in position on the crankcase.

Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.

4. Install the front cover retaining bolts.
^ Tighten the engine front cover retaining bolts to 10 Nm (89 inch lbs.).





5. Install the drive belt idler pulley.
6. Install the drive belt idler pulley bolt.
^ Tighten the drive belt idler pulley bolt to 50 Nm (37 ft. lbs.).

7. Install the drive belt tensioner.
8. Install the drive belt tensioner bolt.
^ Tighten the drive belt tensioner bolt to 50 Nm (37 ft. lbs.).

9. Install the crankshaft balancer.
10. Install the drive belt.
