REMOVAL PROCEDURE
Tools Required
^ Adhesive Kit GM P/N 12346284 or equivalent
^ J 24402-A Glass Sealant Remove Knife
^ J 38454 Windshield Removal Knife
^ Plastic Paddle

CAUTION:
^ If broken glass falls into the defroster outlets, it can be blown into the passenger compartment and cause injuries. To help avoid personal injury, cover the defroster outlets before replacing windows.
^ When replacing stationary windows, Urethane Adhesive Kit GM P/N 12346284, or a urethane adhesive system meeting GM Specification GM365lM, must be used to maintain original installation integrity. Failure to use the urethane adhesive kit will result in poor retention of the window which may allow unrestrained occupants to be ejected from the vehicle resulting in personal injury.
^ When working with any type of glass, use approved safety glasses and gloves to reduce the chance of personal injury.
^ Failure to prep area prior to the application of primer may cause insufficient bonding of urethane adhesive. Insufficient bonding of urethane adhesive may allow unrestrained occupants to be ejected from the vehicle resulting in personal injury.
^ At least 24 hours are required for complete curing of repair material The repair area should not be physically disturbed until after that time. Insufficient curing of urethane adhesive may allow unrestrained occupants to be ejected from the vehicle resulting in personal injury.

INSTALLATION PROCEDURE

IMPORTANT: If repairs to the pinchweld are required the bonding surface must be a clean primer only surface. Use material such as BASF DE17(R), DuPont 2610(R). or PPG DP40(R).

Windshield Replacement: Installation Procedure:

1. Repair the pinchweld if corrosion or damage is present.

Windshield Replacement: Installation Procedure:

2. Install the windshield reveal molding to the window.
3. Position (dry fit) the windshield in the opening.

Windshield Replacement: Installation Procedure:

4. Apply masking tape strips across the edge of the windshield and adjacent roof and body pillars. During installation, the tape on the windshield can be aligned with the tape on the body to guide the windshield into the desired position.

Windshield Replacement: Installation Procedure:

5. Slit the tape at the edge of the windshield.
6. Remove the windshield.

Windshield Replacement: Installation Procedure:

7. Install the windshield lower frame sealing strip, if required.

Windshield Replacement: Installation Procedure:

IMPORTANT: Window Prep Primer (Clear #1) etches the window. Care should be taken to apply Window Prep Primer (Clear #1) only to the blacked out area on the window.

Windshield Replacement: Installation Procedure:

10. Apply Glass Prep Primer (Clear #1) to the blacked out area on the window.

IMPORTANT:
^ Urethane will not bond to the windshield unless Black Primer #2 has been applied to the windshield.
^ DO NOT apply Black Primer #2 to existing urethane.

11. Apply the Glass Prep Primer (Black #2) around the entire perimeter of the windshield edge and 6 mm (1/4 inch) inboard on inner surface. Allow Glass Prep Primer (Black #2) to dry 6 to 10 minutes.

IMPORTANT:
^ Urethane will not adhere to the pinchweld unless Black Primer #3 is applied to the pinchweld.
^ The pinchweld to be primed must be free of urethane and an original paint or primed surface not an aftermarket finished painted surface.
^ Do Not apply Black Primer #3 to existing urethane.

Windshield Replacement: Installation Procedure:

12. Apply the Pinch-Weld Primer (Black #3) to any pinchweld area lacking urethane that has been properly prepared. Allow the primer to dry 10 minutes.

Windshield Replacement: Installation Procedure:

13. Apply a continuous bead of urethane adhesive around the windshield opening pinchweld or to the edge of the windshield where primed in step 10.

15. Use the tape applied in step 3 to place windshield in the proper position.
16. Press the windshield firmly to wet-out and seat the urethane adhesive.
^ Using a small disposable brush or flat-bladed tool, paddle the adhesive material around the edge of windshield to ensure a watertight seal.
^ If necessary, paddle additional material to fill voids in the seal.
^ Use care to avoid excessive squeeze out which would cause an appearance problem.

Windshield Replacement: Installation Procedure:

17. Apply tape to the windshield and the roof to help hold the windshield in position until the urethane adhesive cures.
18. Partially lower a window to prevent pressure build up when closing doors prior to urethane adhesive cure.
19. Watertest the vehicle at once using a soft spray.
^ Use warm or hot water if available.
^ Do not direct hard stream of water at the fresh urethane adhesive material.
^ If any leaks are found, paddle in extra urethane adhesive at leak point using a small disposable brush or flat-bladed tool.
^ Water applied on top of urethane adhesive, either during watertest or as a separate operation, will speed up the cure of the urethane adhesive.
20. Install the air inlet grille.
21. Install the windshield wipers arms and blades.
22. Install the rearview mirror.
23. Remove protective tape from around the windshield.
24. Clean the surface of windshield of excess urethane adhesive by wiping with a clean, dampened cloth using GM Window Cleaner GM P/N 1050427 or isopropyl alcohol, then allow to air dry.
