Strut Replacement
REMOVAL PROCEDURENOTICE: Care should be taken to avoid chipping or cracking the spring coating when handling the front suspension coil spring. Failure to observe this notice may result in spring breakage.
1. Remove the strut mount bolts at the strut to body.
2. Raise the vehicle. Support the vehicle by the frame. Allow the control arms to hang free.
3. Remove the tire and wheel assembly.
4. Disconnect the ABS front wheel speed sensor connector.
5. Remove the speed sensor bracket from the strut.
NOTICE: The knuckle must be retained after the strut-to-knuckle bolts have been removed. Failure to observe this may cause ball joint and/or drive axle damage.
6. Remove the brake line bracket from the strut on the left side.
7. Remove the strut to knuckle bolts (3).
8. Remove the strut from the vehicle.
INSTALLATION PROCEDURE
NOTICE: Care should be taken to avoid chipping or cracking the spring coating when handling the front suspension coil spring. Failure to observe this notice may result in spring breakage.
1. Install the strut into place.
NOTICE: Always use the correct fastener in the proper location. When you replace a fastener, use ONLY the exact part number for that application. The manufacturer will call out those fasteners that require a replacement after removal. The manufacturer will also call out the fasteners that require thread lockers or thread sealant. UNLESS OTHERWISE SPECIFIED, do not use supplemental coatings (paints, greases, or other corrosion inhibitors) on threaded fasteners or fastener joint interfaces. Generally, such coatings adversely affect the fastener torque and joint clamping force, and may damage the fastener. When you install fasteners, use the correct tightening sequence and specifications. Following these instructions can help you avoid damage to parts and systems.
2. Install the three strut mount nuts and washers.
Tighten
Tighten the strut mount to body nuts to 47 Nm (35 ft. lbs.).
3. Install the strut to the knuckle (2) with the knuckle bolts (3) and nuts (1).
4. Connect the brake line to the strut on the left side.
5. Connect the speed sensor to the bracket strut.
6. Connect the ABS front wheel speed sensor connector.
Tighten
^ Tighten the strut to knuckle bolts to 185 Nm (136 ft. lbs.).
^ Tighten the brake line and the speed sensor bracket bolts to 17 Nm (13 ft. lbs.).
7. Install the tire and wheel assembly.
Tighten
Tighten the wheel nuts to 140 Nm (100 ft. lbs.).
Important: Perform a front wheel alignment after installing the strut.
8. Lower the vehicle.
