Ignition Lock Cylinder - Lost Key
Part 1 Of 2:
Part 2 Of 2:
REMOVE OR DISCONNECT
NOTICE: Once steering column is removed from vehicle, the column is extremely susceptible to damage. Dropping steering column assembly on its end could collapse steering shaft or loosen plastic injections which maintain column rigidity. Leaning on steering column assembly could cause jacket to bend or deform. Any of the above damage could impair steering column's collapsible design. If it is necessary to remove steering wheel, use only the specified steering wheel puller. Under no conditions should the end of shaft be hammered on as hammering could loosen plastic injections which maintain steering column rigidity.
1. Do all steps under REMOVE OR DISCONNECT in UPPER COVER LOWER COVER.
2. Linear shift assembly (35).
^ Do steps 3, 5, and 6 under REMOVE OR DISCONNECT in LINEAR SHIFT ASM (REMOVAL).
3. Drill a 9/32-inch hole on back of bearing & housing assembly (11).
4. Insert tool shown into hole to engage lock retainer spring.
^ Turn tool to break retainer spring.
5. Hold column vertical and tap on housing assembly (11) to dislodge lock retainer.
^ If necessary use needle nose pliers to remove retainer.
6. When lock retainer is removed pull lock cylinder (15) from housing assembly (11).
Clean
^ All debris and metal shavings from drilled hole and inside housing assembly (11).
7. Pass key wire harness from column.
^ Do step 3 under REMOVE OR DISCONNECT in STRG COLUMN LOCK CYL SET.
INSTALL OR CONNECT
NOTICE: Always use the correct fastener in the proper location. When you replace a fastener, use ONLY the exact part number for that application. The manufacturer will call out those fasteners that require a replacement after removal. The manufacturer will also call out the fasteners that require thread lockers or thread sealant. UNLESS OTHERWISE SPECIFIED, do not use supplemental coatings (paints, greases, or other corrosion inhibitors) on threaded fasteners or fastener joint interfaces. Generally, such coatings adversely affect the fastener torque and joint clamping force, and may damage the fastener. When you install fasteners, use the correct tightening sequence and specifications. Following these instructions can help you avoid damage to parts and systems. Failure to do so may result in component damage or malfunction of steering column.
1. New steering column lock cylinder set (15).
^ Key installed in lock cylinder set (15).
^ Ensure sector is in "RUN" position.
^ Line up locking tab with slot in bearing, housing assembly (11) and push into position.
2. Do step 7 under INSTALL OR CONNECT in STRG COLUMN LOCK CYL SET.
3. Linear shift assembly (40).
^ Do steps 2, 3, and Adjust under INSTALL OR CONNECT in LINEAR SHIFT ASM (REMOVAL).
4. Do all steps under INSTALL OR CONNECT in UPPER COVER LOWER COVER.
