Timing Cover: Service and Repair
REMOVAL PROCEDURE1. Remove the accessory drive belt. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement.
2. Remove the crankshaft balancer. Refer to Crankshaft Balancer Replacement.
3. Remove the accessory drive belt tensioner (6).
4. Remove the accessory drive belt idler pulley (3).
5. Remove the engine front cover bolts.
6. Remove the engine front cover.
7. Remove the engine front cover gasket. The gasket is reusable. Do not discard.
INSTALLATION PROCEDURE
1. Place a small daub of RTV sealant at the split line of the upper and lower crankcases.
2. Place the front cover gasket over the crankcase dowel pins.
3. Place the front cover in position on the crankcase.
4. Install the front cover retaining bolts.
^ Tighten the front cover retaining bolts to 10 Nm (89 inch lbs.).
NOTICE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.
5. Install the accessory drive belt idler pulley.
6. Install the accessory drive belt idler pulley bolt.
^ Tighten the accessory drive belt idler pulley bolt to 50 Nm (37 ft. lbs.).
7. Install the accessory drive belt tensioner.
8. Install the accessory drive belt tensioner bolt.
^ Tighten the accessory drive belt tensioner bolt to 50 Nm (37 ft. lbs.).
9. Install the crankshaft balancer. Refer to Crankshaft Balancer Replacement.
10. Install the accessory drive belt. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement.
