Troubleshooting Hints
PERFORM BEFORE BEGINNING SYSTEM DIAGNOSIS1. When servicing the PASS-Key II system, obtain all ignition keys if possible and verify proper key code values with tool J 35628-A, VATS interrogator. If key code window shows E, or display is erratic, replace key.
2. Check key pellet sensing contacts in ignition key lock cylinder by looking into key opening. If contacts are damaged, or not silver in color, replace ignition key lock cylinder.
3. Check ignition key for a cracked resistor pellet or a pellet that is dirty or coated. Also check that ignition key is free from excess plastic around resistor pellet contacts.
4. Check fuses by visual inspection.
5. If starter enable relay must be replaced, check the wiring to the starter solenoid (CKT 6, PPL) for a possible short.
6. Before component replacement, check for poor terminal contact at component and harness connectors.
7. Check for a broken (or partially broken) wire inside of the insulation which could cause system failure but prove good in a continuity/voltage check. Refer to Troubleshooting Procedures. Diagnostic Aids
8. Check for proper installation of aftermarket electronic equipment which may effect the integrity of other systems. Refer to Troubleshooting Procedures.
