DTC C1281:

CIRCUIT DESCRIPTION
If the Electronic Brakes and Traction Control Module (EBTCM) detects excessive use of the Antilock Brake System or Traction Control System, the EBTCM will disable the Traction Control in order to prevent a possible brake over temperature condition.

Excessive braking and/or Traction Control may result in the following conditions:
^ Degraded braking performance
^ Damage to the rotors
^ Damage to the brake pads

CONDITIONS FOR SETTING THE DTC
The temperature values are an estimated figure calculated by the EBTCM.

The malfunction is probably a defective EBTCM if the following conditions exist:
^ The driven wheel brake rotors are below the estimated figure
^ The Brake Lamp Switch is properly adjusted
^ The Brake Lamp Switch CKT is OK

ACTION TAKEN WHEN THE DTC SETS
The following actions are taken when the DTC sets:
^ A malfunction DTC is stored
^ The EBTCM illuminates the TRACTION OFF indicator
^ The TCS is disabled for as long as both of the driven brake wheel rotor temperatures are above the estimated figure If the rotor temperatures go below the estimated figure, then the TRACTION OFF indicator will turn OFF.

DIAGNOSTIC AIDS
The following conditions may cause the brake thermal model to exceed the limit:
^ Repeated, heavy use of the Antilock Brake or Traction Control systems
^ An intermittent wheel speed sensor signal
