Removal and Replacement

4T80-E TRANSAXLE ASSEMBLY

REMOVE OR DISCONNECT

^ TOOLS REQUIRED:
- J 28467 Engine Support Fixture
- J 28467-94 Engine Support Fixture Adapter
- J 28467-330 Engine Support Fixture Adapter
- J 28467-350 Engine Support Fixture Adapter

1. Negative battery cable.
2. Shift Control cable and bracket at transaxle.
3. Manual shaft lever and transaxle range selector switch.






4. Install engine support fixture J 28467-A.

IMPORTANT
- It is necessary to "load,, the support fixture by tightening the wing nuts several turns to take the weight of the powertrain off of the mounts and frame.

5. Drain cooling system.
6. Vacuum line at brake booster.
7. Transaxle vent hose.
8. Electrical Connectors:
- (2) transaxle connectors.
- Speed sensor connectors.
- Power steering gear connector.
9. Upper transaxle cooler line at radiator.
10. Lower transaxle cooler line at transaxle.
11. Retaining bracket nut at transaxle.
12. Coolant by-pass pipe at thermostat housing and set aside.
13. Left and right transaxle mount bolts.
14. Raise vehicle.
15. Left front tire and wheel.
16. Left front splash shield.
17. Both tie rod cotter pins and nuts and separate both tie rods from steering knuckles.
18. Both lower ball joint cotter pins and nuts and separate both ball joints from steering knuckles.
19. Left drive axle nut and remove drive axle from hub.
20. Both drive axles from transaxle.
21. Engine oil pan to transaxle bracket.
22. Torque converter cover.
23. Flywheel to converter bolts.
- Mark flywheel to converter position so that they can be assembled in the same position.
24. Complete exhaust system.
25. Exhaust manifold rear pipe.
26. Steering rack to right transaxle mount bolts.
27. Bolt from right transaxle mount.
28. Frame to right transaxle mount bolt and remove mount.
29. Power steering line retaining clamp from frame.
30. Through bolt from right side of steering rack and support steering rack assembly.
31. Support frame.
32. Knock sensor shield.






33. Engine to transaxle brace.
34. Transaxle mount to bracket to bracket retaining nuts.






35. Rear transaxle mount bracket from transaxle and body.
36. Electrical connectors from park/neutral switch.









37. Right and left lower transaxle to engine bolt.
38. Frame bolts and frame.
39. Engine to transaxle bolts.
40. Lower transaxle.

INSTALL OR CONNECT

^ TOOLS REQUIRED:
- J 28467 Engine Support Fixture
- J 28467-94 Engine Support Fixture Adapter
- J 28467-330 Engine Support Fixture Adapter
- J 28467-350 Engine Support Fixture Adapter

1. Transaxle assembly into vehicle.






2. Engine-to-transaxle bolts.

TIGHTEN
- Bolts to 75 Nm (55 lb. ft.).






3. Rear transaxle mount to body.
4. Rear transaxle mount bracket to transaxle.






5. Left lower transaxle to engine bolt.






6. Right lower transaxle to engine bolt.
7. Electrical connector to park/neutral position switch.
8. Engine to transaxle brace.
9. Knock sensor shield.
10. Electrical connectors to speed and knock sensors.
11. Flywheel to torque converter bolts.
12. Flywheel cover.
13. Transaxle to oil pan brace.
14. Frame assembly and mounting bolts.

TIGHTEN
- Bolts to 192 Nm (142 lb. ft.).

15. Left transaxle mount to frame bolt.
16. Through bolt to right side of steering rack.
17. Steering line retaining clamp to frame.
18. Right transaxle mount.
19. Rear manifold pipe.
20. Exhaust system.
21. Both drive axles.
22. Both ball joints into steering knuckles.
23. Both tie rods into steering knuckles.
24. Left splash shield.
25. Both front wheels and tires.
26. Lower vehicle.
27. Right and left upper transaxle to engine bolts.






28. Remove engine support fixture.
29. Coolant by-pass hose at thermostat housing.
30. Transaxle line bracket.
31. Upper and lower transaxle cooler lines.
32. Shift control cable and bracket.
33. Air intake duct.
34. Vacuum line to brake booster and transaxle vent hose.
35. Refill coolant system.
36. Check and fill fluid level.
37. Negative battery cable.
