Fuel Line Coupler: Service and Repair
Removal ProcedureTools Required - J 37088-A/BT-9171 (Fuel Pipe Quick Connect Separator)
WARNING:
^ To Reduce the risk of fire and personal Injury, relieve the fuel system pressure before disconnecting fuel line fittings.
^ In order to Reduce the Risk of Fire and Personal Injury: Before connecting the fuel pipe quick-connect fitting, always apply a few drops of clean engine oil to the male fuel pipe end. This will ensure a proper re-connection and prevent a possible fuel leak. (During normal operation, the O-rings In the female connector will swell, which may prevent a proper re-connection if not lubricated).
^ Wear safety glasses when using compressed air because flying dirt particles may cause eye injury.
1. Relieve the fuel system pressure. Refer to Fuel Pressure Release.
2. Grasp both sides of the quick-connect fitting. Twist the female connector 1/4 turn in each direction in order to loosen any dirt within the quick-connect fitting.
3. Blow any dirt out of the quick-connect fitting using compressed air.
4. Squeeze the plastic retainer release tabs.
5. Pull the connection apart.
CAUTION: If it is necessary to remove rust or burrs from a fuel pipe, use emery cloth in a radial motion with the fuel pipe end in order to prevent damage to the O-ring sealing surface.
6. Use a clean shop towel in order to wipe off the male fuel pipe end.
7. Inspect both ends of the quick-connect fining for dirt and burrs.
8. Clean or replace components/assemblies as required.
Installation Procedure
1. Apply a few drops of clean engine oil to the male fuel pipe end.
2. Push both sides of the quick-connect fining together in order to cause the retaining tabs/fingers to snap into place.
3. Once installed, pull on both sides of the quick-connect fining in order to make sure the connection is secure.
