Rear Crankshaft Main Bearing Seal: Service and Repair

1. Remove powertrain assembly. Refer to Engine/Service and Repair.
2. Remove transaxle to cylinder block attaching bolts, then separate transaxle from engine.
3. Remove flywheel attaching bolts, then the flywheel.
4. Remove seal by drilling a 1/8 inch hole in metal body of seal and using a suitable slide hammer to remove seal. Seal removal can also be done using a flat-bladed screwdriver between seal lip and crankshaft. However, extreme care is required when using this method so as to avoid any damage to sealing surface of crankshaft.
5. Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
a. Place a small amount of RTV sealant at crankcase split line across end of upper and lower crankcase seal.
b. Lubricate rear main seal with clean engine oil prior to installation.
