Procedure

Cardboard Roof Insulator

Remove or Disconnect

1. Headliner assembly. Refer to Section 10-9 of the Service Manual.

2. Carefully separate headliner from cardboard roof insulator.

3. Starting at one corner of cardboard, pulling downward, cut adhesive bead using a sharp putty knife or equivalent.

Notice:
^ Care should be taken not to damage roof panel when removing old adhesive.

^ When servicing vehicles with rear vanities, be sure to remove the rear vanities before dropping the headliner. Failure to remove rear vanities will cause roof panel damage. Also, leave the black rear vanity retainer glued to the roof. If you must remove the retainer, be very careful or damage to the roof panel may occur.

4. Cut off all of the adhesive beads.

5. Cardboard insulator.

Important:
It is not necessary to remove all of the old adhesive.

Install or Connect

1. Apply 6 mm to 9 mm (1/4 to 11/32 inch) beads of adhesive 15 mm (5/8 inch) wide (Figure 1) where it was previously removed from cardboard insulator. When a new cardboard roof insulator is used, place adhesive as shown in Figure 2; the adhesive location is marked on the cardboard insulator. The Concours/DeVille has six beads of adhesive; the Eldorado, Seville, Aurora, Riviera and Park Avenue have five.

Important:
Use Betamate Urethane Adhesive, P/N 12378192, for this installation.

2. Place cardboard insulator to roof panel.

Important:
Roof insulator must be installed within five minutes of adhesive application.

3. Headliner.

Important:
Gluing headliner to cardboard roof insulator is not required.
