Engine - Misfire, Rough idle, or White Exhaust Smoke

SUBJECT:
ENGINE MISFIRE, ROUGH IDLE, WHITE SMOKE FROM EXHAUST PIPE, BLOWN INJECTOR FUSE, INJECTOR STUCK OPEN AND/OR DTC 119 (REPLACE FUEL INJECTOR WIRING HARNESS)
MODEL:
1995 OLDSMOBILE AURORA WITH 4.0L ENGINE (VIN C - RPO L47)
CONDITION:
Some owners may experience engine misfire. rough idle, white smoke from the exhaust pipe1 blown 10 amp injector fuse, and/or DTC 119.
CAUSE:
These conditions may be caused by mispositioning of the fuel injector wires during installation of the intake manifold cover. The fuel injector wires may have become pinched or damaged. affecting the operation of one or more of the fuel injectors.
CORRECTION:
To correct this condition, replace the fuel injector wiring harness and re-route using the following procedure:
1. Remove the four intake manifold top cover fasteners.
2. Remove the intake manifold cover.
3. inspect the fuel injector wiring harness at the side of the intake manifold near the fuel rail ground wire (right side of vehicle). Remove all tape and carefully inspect all wiring for damage.
4. If damage is present to any wires, replace the entire fuel injector wiring harness using service part number 12133790. If the new wiring harness contains a retaining clip, remove the clip and discard.
5. Retape the wires and install 4 to 5 inches of 9 mm conduit over the portion of the harness to be re-routed. (See Figure 1)
6. If the 10 amp injector fuse was blown, replace it with another 10 amp fuse. Do not install a larger amperage fuse. Start vehicle and verify the above mentioned conditions are not present.
7. Route the harness in the U-channel on top of the intake manifold closest to the power steering pump. Do not route the fuel injector wires under the number 2 spark plug wire. (See Figure 2)
8. Ensure the fuel rail ground wire is routed under the fuel rail assembly.
9. install the intake manifold cover and four top cover fasteners. Use caution not to damage the front back spark plug wires at the cam cover area.
10. Clear all codes.
