Circuit Operation

The electronic controller (Magna Steer Module) controls a bi-directional magnetic rotary actuator. The module is powered by the 10 amp HVAC CONT Fuse found in the I/P Fuse Block. The fuse is only hot with the Ignition Switch in "RUN." The actuator, which is controlled by the Magna Steer Module and located in the Steering Gear, adjusts the amount of driver effort necessary to achieve a given level of power steering assist. The controller varies the effort by adjusting the current flow through the actuator. This current, and also frequency and duty cycle, can be read from Pin 11 of the DLC. The amount of effort needed for steering is dependant upon vehicle speed (i.e. as vehicle speed increases the effort increases and as speed decreases so does the effort). The vehicle speed is sent to the Magna Steer Module from the PCM.
