Throttle Body Assembly Removal and Replacement
Throttle Body Assembly:
TOOL REQUIRED
J 29607, ISC Adjusting Wrench
An eight digit part identification number is stamped on the throttle body casting. Refer to this number if servicing, or part replacement is required. See Application and ID.
REMOVE OR DISCONNECT
1. Rear seat cushion.
2. Negative battery cable.
3. Air intake duct.
4. Throttle Position (TP) sensor and Idle Speed Control (ISC) actuator electrical connectors.
5. Vacuum manifold at throttle body.
6. Fuel lines from fuel line retainer.
7. Accelerator cable and cruise control cable at throttle body.
8. Brake booster vacuum pipe and EVAP canister purge line at ISC actuator bracket.
9. Throttle body coolant hose at coolant reservoir.
10. Throttle body coolant hose at throttle body coolant pipe.
11. Throttle body mount bolts.
12. Throttle body and O-ring seal.
Disassemble
1. ISC actuator bracket with ISC actuator.
2. TP sensor.
3. Throttle body coolant hose.
Assemble
1. Throttle body coolant hose.
2. TP sensor.
3. ISC actuator bracket with ISC actuator.
Tighten
- TP sensor bolts to 2.3 Nm (20 lb. in.).
- ISC actuator bracket bolts to 19 Nm (14 lb. ft.).
INSTALL OR CONNECT
1. Position new throttle body O-ring seal on throttle body with petroleum jelly.
CAUTION:
- Do Not reuse the old throttle body O-ring seal. The seal swells when exposed to fuel and oil and will not seat properly to the throttle body and EGR transfer spacer once the throttle body has been removed.
- Do Not use silicone lubricants on the throttle body O-ring seal. Silicone lubricants may damage the O-ring seal.
2. Throttle body and mount bolts.
Tighten
Throttle body bolts to 12 Nm (106 lb. in.).
3. Throttle body coolant hoses.
4. Brake booster vacuum pipe and EVAP canister purge line at ISC actuator bracket.
5. Accelerator cable and cruise control cable at throttle body.
6. Fuel lines into fuel line retainer.
7. Vacuum manifold at throttle body.
8. TP sensor and ISC actuator electrical connectors.
9. Air intake duct.
10. Negative battery cable.
11. Hear seat cushion.
12. Intake manifold top cover.
INSPECT
Check and add coolant as needed.
ADJUST
1. Perform Chart C-2B Idle Speed Control check.
- Refer to Computers and Control Systems / System Diagnosis. Testing and Inspection
2. Perform "TP SENSOR LEARN" procedure.
3. Perform "IDLE LEARN" procedure.
- TP SENSOR LEARN and the IDLE LEARN procedure are located at Fuel System / Service and Repair. Service and Repair
