A list of explanations for each data message displayed on the Tech 1 scan tool begins below.This information will assist in tracking down emission or driveability problems, since the displays can be viewed while the vehicle is being driven. Refer to the "On-Board Diagnostic System Check" for additional information.
ENGINE SPEED - RANGE 0.00 to 9999 - Engine speed is computed by the PCM from the 4X reference input (low resolution circuit). it should remain close to desired idle under various engine loads with engine idling.
TURBINE SHAFT SPEED - Scan tool displays a range of 0.00 to 8192 RPM - This parameter indicates the rotational speed of the transaxle input shaft expressed as revolutions per minute.
MPH / Km/h - Scan tool displays a range of 0.00 to 255 mph - This parameter is the input signal from the vehicle speed sensor.
ENGINE (ENG) COOLANT (COOL) TEMPERATURE (TEMP) - Scan tool displays a range of -40°C to 151°C (-40°F to 304°F) - This parameter is the input signal of the engine coolant temperature sensor. Engine coolant temperature is high (151°C) when signal voltage is low (0 volt), and engine coolant temperature is low (-400C) when signal voltage is high (5 volts).
THROTTLE ANGLE - Scan tool displays a range of 0% to 100% - This parameter is the calculated value from the signal inputs of the APP sensors. 0% throttle indicates closed throttle, 100% throttle angle indicates wide open throttle.
TP ANGLE AT SHIFT - Scan tool displays a range of 0.00 to 81.6 degrees - This parameter is the throttle position at the time of a shift.
DESIRED PRESSURE CONTROL SOLENOID (PCS) CURRENT - Scan tool displays a range of 0.00 amps to 4.98 amps - This paraof the pressure control solenoid circuit. 0.00 amps (no current flow) indicates commanded higher line pressure. 4.98 amps (high current flow) indicates commanded lower line pressure.
ACTUAL PRESSURE CONTROL SOLENOID (PCS) CURRENT - Scan tool displays a range of 0.00 amps to 4.98 amps - This parameter is the actual current of the pressure control solenoid circuit at the control module.
0.00 amps (no current flow) indicates actual higher line pressure. 4.98 amps (high current flow) indicates actual lower line pressure.
PRESSURE CONTROL SOLENOID (PCS) CURRENT ERROR - Scan tool displays a range of 0.00 to 9.96 amps - This parameter is the difference between the commanded amperage to the PCS and the actual amperage to the PCS.
PRESSURE CONTROL SOLENOID (PCS) DUTY CYCLE - Scan tool displays a range of 0% to 100% - This parameter is the commanded state of the pressure control solenoid expressed as a percent of energized of on time. 0% indicates zero "ON" time (non-energized) or no current flow. 100% indicates maximum "ON" time (energized) or high current flow.
TORQUE CONVERTER CLUTCH (TCC) DUTY CYCLE - Scan tool displays a range of 0% to 100% - This parameter is the commanded percentage of "ON" time of the TCC solenoid. 100% represents an "ON" (energized) commanded state. 0% represents a (non- energized) commanded "OFF" state.
TCC SLIP SPEED - Scan tool displays a range of -4096 to 4064 - Torque Converter Slip Speed. Display shows the amount of slip in RPM between the engine and transaxle input shaft from 0 to 8192.
SHIFT SOLENOID "A" - Scan tool displays "ON" or "OFF" - When the automatic transaxle is in first or fourth gear, the scan tool should display "ON." When the transaxle is in second or third gear, the scan tool should display "OFF."
SHIFT SOLENOID "B" - Scan tool displays "ON" or "OFF" - When the automatic transaxle is in first or second gear, the scan tool should display "ON." When the transaxle is in third or fourth gear, the scan tool should display "OFF."
A/B/C RANGE (RNG) - Scan tool displays "ON/OFF", "ON/OFF", "ON/OFF" - These parameters are the three inputs from the transaxle range pressure switch assembly. "OFF" represents a B + voltage signal, "ON" represents a 0 voltage signal
TRANS RANGE SWITCH (SW) - Scan tool displays a range of Invalid, Park/Neutral, Reverse, Drive 4, Drive 3, Drive 2, and Low - This parameter is the decoded status of the three A/B/C range inputs from the transaxle range pressure switch assembly and represents the position of the transaxle manual valve.
PARK/NEUTRAL POS - Scan tool displays -P-N or R-DL-P-N - This parameter indicates that the gear select lever is in park or neutral.
TRANS RATIO - Scan tool displays a range of 0.00 to xxx.x to 1 - This parameter is the actual (engineered) gear ratio that the transaxle is operating at.
TRANS TORQUE - Scan tool displays a range of 0.00 to 510 lb. ft. - This parameter is the amount of torque that is transferred through the transaxle.
1-2 SHIFT TIME - Scan tool displays a range of 0.00 to 6.38 seconds - This parameter is the actual time of the last 1-2 shift, beginning when the PCM commands the shift until the PCM recognizes a ratio change.
2-3 SHIFT TIME - Scan tool displays a range of 0.00 to 6.38 seconds - This parameter is the actual time of the last 2-3 shift, beginning when the PCM commands the shift until the PCM recognizes a ratio change.
3-4 SHIFT TIME - Scan tool displays a range of 0.00 to 6.38 seconds - This parameter is the actual time of the last 3-4 shift, beginning when the PCM commands the shift until the PCM recognizes a ratio change.
SHIFT DELAY TIME - Scan tool displays a range 0.00 to 6.38 seconds - This parameter is the differential in seconds, for a gear change to take place by comparing the ratios,
1st GEAR STEADY ADAPT - Scan tool displays a range of 0.00 to 128 psi - This parameter is the amount of pressure that is added to base line pressure to adjust the holding effort of a clutch or a band, in first gear while not braking or shifting.
2nd GEAR STEADY ADAPT - Scan tool displays a range of 0.00 to 128 psi - This parameter is the amount of pressure that is added to base line pressure to adjust the holding effort of a clutch or a band, in second gear while not braking or shifting.
3rd GEAR STEADY ADAPT - Scan tool displays a range of 0.00 to 128 psi - This parameter is the amount of pressure that is added to base line pressure to adjust the holding effort of a clutch or a band, in third gear while not braking or shifting.
4th GEAR STEADY ADAPT - Scan tool displays a range of 0.00 to 128 psi - This parameter is the amount of pressure that is added to base line pressure to adjust the holding effort of a clutch or a band, in fourth gear while not braking or shifting.
3rd GEAR STEADY ADAPT WITH TCC - Scan tool displays a range of 0.00 to 128 psi - This parameter is the amount of pressure that is added to base line pressure to adjust the holding effort of a clutch or a band, in third gear with TCC applied.
4th GEAR STEADY ADAPT WITH TCC - Scan tool displays a range of 0.00 to 128 psi - This parameter is the amount of pressure that is added to base line pressure to adjust the holding effort of a clutch or a band, in fourth gear with TCC applied.
REVERSE STEADY ADAPT - Scan tool displays a range of 0.00 to 128 psi - This parameter is the amount of pressure that is added to base line pressure to adjust the holding effort of a clutch or a band, in reverse.
STEADY STATE ADAPT - Scan tool displays "YES" or "NO" This parameter is the monitor of the steady state adapt, "YES" will indicate that the adapt capability is functional. "NO" will indicate that the adapt is not functional.
1-2 ADAPT LO CELL - Scan tool displays a range of -64 to 64 psi - This parameter is the amount of pressure that is added to base line pressure to adjust the holding effort of a clutch or a band, during a 1-2 shift at heavy acceleration.
1-2 ADAPT HI CELL - Scan tool displays a range of -64 to 64 psi - This parameter is the amount of pressure that is added to base line pressure to adjust the holding effort of a clutch or a band, during a 1-2 shift at light acceleration.
2-3 ADAPT LO CELL - Scan tool displays a range of -64 to 64 psi - This parameter is the amount of pressure that is added to base line pressure to adjust the holding effort of a clutch or a band, during a 2-3 shift at light acceleration.
2-3 ADAPT HI CELL - Scan tool displays a range of -64 to 64 psi - This parameter is the amount of pressure that is added to base line pressure to adjust the holding effort of a clutch or a band, during a 2-3 shift at heavy acceleration.
3-4 ADAPT LO CELL - Scan tool displays a range of -64 to 64 psi - This parameter is the amount of pressure that is added to base line pressure to adjust the holding effort of a clutch or a band, during a 3-4 shift at light acceleration.
3-4 ADAPT HI CELL - Scan tool displays a range of -64 to 64 psi - This parameter is the amount of pressure that is added to base line pressure to adjust the holding effort of a clutch or a band, during a 3-4 shift at heavy acceleration.
UPSHIFT ADAPTED - Scan tool displays "YES" or "NO" - This parameter is the monitor of the upshift adapt. "YES" will indicate that the adapt capability is functional. "NO" will indicate that the adapt is not functional.
GARAGE SHIFT ADAPT - Scan tool displays "YES" or "NO" - This parameter is the monitor of the garage shift adapt, "YES," will indicate that the adapt capability is functional. "NO" will indicate that the adapt is not functional.
REVERSE GARAGE SHIFT LO - Scan tool displays a range of -12.75 to 12.75 psi - This parameter is the amount of pressure that is added to base line pressure to adjust the holding effort of a clutch or a band, during a garage shift into reverse at idle.
REVERSE GARAGE SHIFT HI - Scan tool displays a range of -12.75 to 12.75 psi - This parameter is the amount of pressure that is added to base line pressure to adjust the holding effort of a clutch or a band, during a garage shift into reverse at high idle.
DRIVE GARAGE SHIFT LO - Scan tool displays a range of -12.75 to 12.75 psi - This parameter is the amount of pressure that is added to base line pressure to adjust the holding effort of a clutch or a band, during a garage shift into drive at idle.
DRIVE GARAGE SHIFT HI - Scan tool displays a range of -12.75 to 12.75 psi - This parameter is the amount of pressure that is added to base line pressure to adjust the holding effort of a clutch or a band, during a garage shift into drive at high idle.
PRESENT ADAPT - Scan tool displays a range of 0.00 to 255 psi - This parameter is the amount of pressure added to base line pressure to adjust the holding effort of a clutch or a band for a giving shift.
TRANS HOT MODE - Scan tool displays "YES" or "NO" - This parameter monitors transaxle temperature. "NO" indicates the transaxle temperature has not exceeded 266°F (130°C). "YES" indicates the transaxle temperature has exceeded 266°F (130°C) and has not cooled to 239°F (115°C).
TCC BRAKE SWITCH Scan tool displays RELEASED/APPLIED This parameter indicates the state of the TCC brake switch circuit input. APPLIED indicates a zero voltage input (brake switch open, brake pedal applied). RELEASED indicates a voltage input (brake switch closed, brake pedal released).
THROTTLE POSITION SWITCH - Scan tool displays open/closed - The throttle position switch is part of the ISC motor. When the throttle cam is lifted off the ISC motor, the switch opens. When the throttle cam rests on the ISC motor, the switch closes. This input comes to the PCM at pin "D8". "D8" should be "LO" with the accelerator pedal released and "HI" with the accelerator pedal depressed.
A/C ENABLE STATE - Scan tool displays "YES" or "NO" - This parameter indicates that the A/C request from the control head is being received by the PCM.
A/C CLUTCH RELAY - This parameter indicates the commanded state of the A/C control relay. The clutch should be engaged when "ON" is displayed.
QDM 1 FAULT - Scan tool displays "YES" or "NO"Quad-driver modules are used to turn "ON" various devices. The Tech 1 display will switch from "NO" to "YES" if there is a circuit problem.
