Brake Switch (Cruise Control): Testing and Inspection
Brake Switch Assembly:
ELECTRICAL RELEASE SWITCH CHECK
1. Set ignition to "ON"; set cruise control "OFF-ON" switch to "ON." Install Tech 1.
2. View C/C brake switch, should read "RELEASED" and switch to "APPLIED" when the brake pedal is depressed. If the switch status changes, the electrical release switch is OK.
3. If brake switch status is incorrect probe CKT 397, (GRY), with a test light to ground. If the test light does not light, refer to Computers and Control Systems / System Diagnosis / Chart C-17 (Cruise Control System Check). Testing and Inspection If the test light does turn "ON," continue to Step 4.
4. Jumper between the CKT 397 (GRY) and CKT 86 (BRN) wires on the brake switch.If the Tech 1 display switches from "RELEASED" to "APPLIED" as the two wires are connected, adjust or replace the brake switch as needed.
5. If the switch status does not change when the wires are jumpered then CKT 86 (BRN) wire is open or shorted between the brake switch and PCM, or a poor connection at the PCM or a faulty PCM.
