Chart C-8 Shift Select Switch Circuit

Chart C-8:

Shift Select Switch Circuit:

CIRCUIT DESCRIPTION
The shift select switch enables the operator to select a more aggressive shift pattern within the midrange throttle position (40% - 100%). When the shift select switch is depressed the switch provides a ground path for ignition voltage from the Powertrain Control Module (PCM). The PCM enters performance mode, shifts will be firmer and slightly delayed (approximately 1-3 mph). Normal mode operation is obtained by depressing the shift select switch a second time.

CHART TEST DESCRIPTION
Number(s) below refer to circled number(s) on the diagnostic chart.

1. This test checks the function of the switch.
2. This test checks the switches ability to complete the circuit to ground.
3. This test checks for continuity in CKT 1493.

DIAGNOSTIC AIDS
If, during "performance" mode, an increased performance is not perceived, use "Snapshot" mode on the scan tool. Record data in "normal mode," then in "performance mode." When reviewing data, observe mph and pressure control solenoid duty cycle for differences during upshifts and downshifts.
