DTC 89
DTC 89 Chart:
Transaxle Control Circuit:
CIRCUIT DESCRIPTION
Transaxle pressure is modified by an adaptive modifier used to control the gear shift, execution time. If shift execution time is out of range, the pressure control solenoid will be commanded to increase or decrease line pressure to adapt the shift.
DTC 89 WILL SET WHEN
- No DTCs 21, 22, 24, 56, 57, 59 and 79.
- Vehicle speed 10 mph or greater.
- Throttle angle 15.7 degrees or greater.
- Transaxle temperature 90°C or greater
- 1-2 shift time is 0.55 second or greater and adapt cannot shorten shift time for 1 second.
- 2-3 shift time is 0.55 second or greater and adapt cannot shorten shift time for 1 second.
- 3-4 shift time is 0.55 second or greater and adapt cannot shorten shift time for 1 second.
ACTION TAKEN (PCM WILL DEFAULT TO)
- With a current DTC 89 set, the PCM will illuminate the Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) (Service Engine Soon).
- The pressure control solenoid is turned "OFF."
DTC 89 WILL CLEAR WHEN
The fault no longer exists and the ignition switch is cycled "OFF" and "ON."
DTC CHART TEST DESCRIPTION
Number(s) below refer to circled number(s) on the diagnostic chart.
1. This test checks for other DTCs.
2. This test checks transaxle pressure.
3. This test attempts to reset DTC 89.
4. This test checks for which shift was soft.
DIAGNOSTIC AIDS
The diagnostic test monitors the shift execution and adaptive modifier and if a long shift execution is observed with maximum adaptive learn modifier then the DTC is set. Observations are made for all three.
