DTC 86

DTC 86 Chart:

Vehicle Speed Sensor Circuits:

Undefined Transaxle Gear Ratio:

CIRCUIT DESCRIPTION
The control module calculates ratio based on the transaxle input speed and output speed sensor readings. The control module compares the known transaxle ratio to the calculated ratio, for the particular gear range selected.

DTC 86 WILL SET WHEN
- No DTCs 21, 22, 24, 56 and 75.
- Engine running.
- Vehicle speed 7 mph or greater.
- Throttle angle 11.0 degrees or greater.
- Transaxle not in park or neutral.
- Commanded transaxle line pressure 100 psi or greater.

ACTION TAKEN (PCM WILL DEFAULT TO)
- With current DTC 86 set, the PCM will illuminate the Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) (Service Engine Soon).
- Maximum line pressure.

DTC 86 WILL CLEAR WHEN
The fault no longer exists.

DTC CHART TEST DESCRIPTION
Number(s) below refer to circled number(s) on the diagnostic chart.

1. An out of range trans range pressure switch could falsely indicate the actual transaxle range.
2. This test checks the calculated ratio to determine if the ratio is within the parameters.

DIAGNOSTIC AIDS
This test checks for a ratio which is not possible to obtain under normal operating condition of the transaxle.
