SERVICE INFORMATION
When servicing the A/C system on an Applied Vehicle for poor cooling due to low refrigerant, the entire system should be thoroughly checked for leaks.
The diagnostic tips in this bulletin are provided as a help to check for leaks at the A/C evaporator.
Diagnostic Tip # 1
Check for refrigerant oil on the In-Cabin Microfilter.
a. Remove the In-Cabin Microfilter.
^ Refer to the Service Manual as needed for filter removal information.
b. Refrigerant oil on the filter indicates the evaporator is leaking.
Diagnostic Tip # 2
Check for oil/dye on evaporator tubes or surface.
a. Remove the glove box.
^ Refer to the Service Manual as needed for glove box removal information.
b. Use a mirror, ultraviolet light and yellow glasses to check for oil/dye on the evaporator surface/tubes.
NOTE:
Essential tool J-43926 (A/C Dye Leak Detection Kit) contains an ultraviolet light and yellow glasses. Equivalent light and glass can also be used.
^ If oil is on the evaporator, it is usually on the lower tank.
^ Refrigerant oil/dye visible on the evaporator indicates the evaporator is leaking.
Example of evaporator leak:
^ Oil/dye is present where tubes attach to the lower tank.
