Body - Ticking Noise From Lower Windshield Area

IF YOU CONFIRM

An intermittent ticking noise coming from the lower area of the windshield where the cowl top cover touches/contacts the windshield.

ACTIONS

1. Remove the cowl top cover.

2. Thoroughly clean the mating areas between the cowl top cover and the windshield (remove all dirt, sand, and debris).

3. Apply 4 strips of felt cloth tape - 2 on each end of the cowl top cover.

^ See Service Procedure for felt tape locations.

^ Use tape listed in the Parts Information.

4. Reinstall the cowl top cover.

SERVICE PROCEDURE





1. Remove the cowl top cover.

^ Refer to Section EXT in the Service Manual for removal information.





2. Thoroughly clean the lower area of the windshield - remove all dirt and sand (see Figure 2).

^ Use locally approved class cleaner.

^ Clean the lower edge.

^ Clean the lower 3 to 5 inches.





3. Clean the windshield channel of the cowl top cover - remove all dirt, sand and debris (see Figure 3).

4. Thoroughly clean the end areas of the cowl top cover windshield channel (see Figure 4).

^ Use isopropyl alcohol.

^ Clean the outside and inside of the channel.

NOTE:
You will be applying self adhesive felt cloth tape in this area. It must be thoroughly clean and dry for the tape to have good adhesion.

5. Wait for the cowl top cover to completely dry.








6. Apply 4 pieces of felt cloth tape to the cowl top cover (see Figures 5 and 6). Use the felt cloth tape listed in the Parts Information.

^ Wrap each piece of tape around the windshield channel as shown in Figure 5.

^ Tape should be all the way into the channel.

^ Apply the tape in the 4 locations shown in Figure 6.

^ 3 inches, and 6 inches from each end.

7. Reinstall the cowl top cover in reverse order.
