SERVICE INFORMATION
If an Applied vehicle has a MIL "ON" with a DTC P1605 (A/T DIAG COMM LINE) stored in the Engine Self Diagnosis results, the cause may be the
Transmission Control Module (TCM).
If this incident occurs, the vehicle transmission may also stay in
third gear, and CONSULT-II may not display "A/T" on the main selection
screen (CONSULT-II cannot communicate with the TCM.)
If this incident should occur, replace the TCM with the one from the
Parts Information section of this bulletin to correct this condition.
SERVICE PROCEDURE
1. Verify the following conditions:
^ That DTC P1605 is stored in Engine Self Diagnosis results (refer to the EC section of the appropriate Service Manual, if necessary.) (Print the Self Diagnosis results for further reference.)
^ Harness and connectors for TCM are OK (refer to the AT section of the appropriate Service Manual, if necessary.)
^ Vehicle battery condition is OK (a weak battery will sometimes cause a DTC P1605).
^ If erased, the code returns within approximately 30 seconds.
^ CONSULT-II will not display "A/T" on the main selection screen.
2. If the above conditions are met, replace the TCM with the one listed in the Parts Information section of this bulletin.
