Service Procedure

1. Drive the vehicle to confirm the incident.

2. Disconnect the seat belt warning light connector and remove the driver seat assembly from the vehicle. Refer to Service Manual pages BT-46 and BT-48 for seat removal procedure.

3. Place the driver seat on a clean, dry and flat surface.

4. Remove the RH side finisher cover (2 screws) from seat assembly (see Figure 2).

5. Remove both seat adjusting knobs. A spring clip at the back of the knob fastens it to a shaft. Use a tool with a hook end and pull the spring clip. Then, pull the knob off the shaft (see Figure 3).

6. Remove the four M8 bolts that fasten the seat bottom cushion to the seat frame (see Figure 4).

7. Pull the seat bottom cushion away from the seat frame and remove the LH side finisher cover (2 screws) (see Figure 5).

8. Inspect the three push nuts. One push nut is located at the LH end of the front lifter shaft and the other two at both ends of the rear lifter shaft (see Figure 6).

Ensure the push nuts are pressed tight against the seat frame; no gap should exist between the push nut and the seat frame (see Figure 7).

9. If a gap exists between the push nut and the seat frame, use a 17 mm socket and place it over the push nut. Tap the socket with a hammer to press the push nut against the seat frame (see Figure 8).

10. Install a push nut on the RH end of the front lifter shaft (see Figure 9).

11. Use a 17 mm socket and place it over the push nut. Tap the socket with a hammer to press the push nut against the seat frame. Ensure no gap exists between the push nut and the seat frame (see Figure 10).

12. Re-assemble the seat assembly in the reverse order of disassembly. Tighten the 4 bolts that fasten the seat bottom cushion to the seat frame to 16-19 ft-lbs.

13. Place the driver seat assembly into the vehicle taking care not to scratch the vehicle paint or the plastic finishers.

14. Reconnect the seat belt warning light connector.

15. The seat mounting bolts must be installed in a specific sequence to insure the seat will lock properly in both tracks. Install the seat mounting bolts as follows:

A. Loosely install the four M10 seat mounting bolts.

B. Tighten the two front bolts (1-->2) to 32-41 ft-lbs. in the sequence as shown in Figure 11.

Note:
Check the seat slide adjusting lever is in the downward maximum position to ensure the pawls on the seat sliders are in locked position. This will prevent seat "half-lock" condition (see Figure 12).

C. Slide the seat towards the maximum forward position. Ensure the seat slide adjusting lever is in the downward maximum position to ensure the pawls on the seat sliders are in locked position (see Figure 12 above).

D. Tighten the two rear bolts (3-->4) to 32-41 ft-lbs. in the sequence as shown in Figure 11 above.

16. Confirm proper operation of the slide and lift functions of the seat.

17. Confirm the seat belt warning light functions properly.

18. Drive the vehicle again to confirm the incident has been resolved.
