Service Procedure

SERVICE PROCEDURE

Figure 1:

1. Verify the condition exists as described in the Service Information section by sitting in the vehicle and making a visual inspection of the headliner's position near the sunroof opening. A sagging headliner will show gaps between the headliner and roof panel. A properly fastened headliner will show no gaps (see Figure 1 for examples).

2. Wash hands or wear clean latex gloves.

Figure 2:

3. Grasp the edge of the headliner where it meets the roof panel and completely separate each of the two upper hook and loop headliner fasteners from their corresponding lower fasteners (see Figure 2 for location of upper and lower fasteners).

NOTE: There are two different types of upper roof panel fasteners which may be found on the vehicle. The fasteners differ as follows:

Figure 3:

A. Snap-on type, 24 mm x 12 mm (1 inch x 1/2") fastener (Figure 3).

Figure 4:

B. Adhesive-backed type, 24 mm x 18 mm (1" x 3/4") fastener (Figure 4).

NOTE: All lower fasteners are of the same adhesive-backed type shown in Figure 4.

4. Remove both upper fasteners from the roof panel on the incident side(s):

Figure 5:

A. To remove the snap-on type upper fasteners, place the tip of a small standard screwdriver against the center black plastic tab which holds the fastener onto the sunroof railing and lift up on the tab to release it. When the tab has been released from the hole in the sunroof railing, slide the fastener toward you and off of the railing (see Figure 5).

Figure 6:

B. To remove an adhesive-backed type upper fastener, grasp the end of the fastener and peel it away from the roof panel (see Figure 6).

Figure 7:

5. Install two replacement upper, snap-on type fasteners onto the sunroof railing by sliding each fastener forward onto the railing until the center plastic tab on the fastener "locks" into the corresponding hole on the railing (see Figure 7).

6. Re-attach the headliner to the roof panel by pressing upward on the headliner. The fasteners will snap into place when properly re-attached.

7. Verify that the headliner no longer sags.

8. Repeat steps 2 through 7 for the other side of the headliner, if required.
