Repair Procedure
SERVICE PROCEDUREREPAIR PROCEDURE:
1. Wash hands or wear clean latex gloves.
2. Gently peel back the door finisher cloth insert from the incident area.
Figure 3:
3. Hold the peeled back cloth away from the door finisher with your fingers (see Figure 3).
4. Apply masking tape (3M # 2020, or equivalent) to the door finisher next to the area which needs repair to prevent glue seepage onto the finisher. Use a plastic putty knife (Hyde Tools P/N 05520) to push the masking tape into the finisher groove (see Figure 3).
CAUTION: Do not use a metal putty knife. Using a metal putty knife may cause damage to the door finisher and cloth insert.
If repairing a curved rather than straight area of the door finisher, you may need to use several pieces of tape to properly protect the finisher from glue overrun.
Figure 4:
5. Apply a 2 - 3 mm (0.08 - 0.12 inch) bead of 3M Scotch-Grip [TM] # 847 Rubber and Gasket Adhesive (5 fl. oz./147.8 ml tube) directly to the curved surface of the finisher. Place the bead 6 mm (1/4 inch) away from the edge of the door finisher groove (see Figure 4).
CAUTION: Do not substitute other glues or adhesives for the Scotch-Grip [TM] # 847.
6. Position the cloth insert back onto the door finisher.
NOTE: If it is necessary to re-position the cloth during this step, the cloth can be peeled back and re-applied while the adhesive is still wet.
Figure 5:
7. Remove the masking tape.
8. Starting from the middle of the cloth insert (see Figure 5, # 1), use the plastic putty knife to push the cloth against the door finisher, applying firm pressure. Smooth out any air bubbles or wrinkles while sliding the putty knife toward the edge of the finisher (see Figure 5).
Stop the outward motion of the putty knife approximately 10 mm (3/8 inch) from the edge (see Figure 5).
CAUTION: Do not apply an extreme amount of pressure while sliding the putty knife. This may over stretch the cloth and cause it to sag later.
9. Repeat Step 8, working toward one end of the cloth (see Figure 5, # 2).
10. Repeat Step 9, working toward the other end of the cloth (see Figure 5, # 3).
11. Make sure the putty knife is clean and adhesive free before proceeding with step 12.
Figure 6:
12. Start from the middle of the cloth and begin inserting the cloth into the finisher groove (see Figure 6, # 1). Angle the putty knife to tuck the cloth into the groove.
13. Repeat Step 12, working toward one end of the cloth (see Figure 6, # 2).
14. Repeat Step 13, working toward the other end of the cloth (see Figure 6, # 3).
15. Perform a final tuck along the edge of the finisher to ensure the cloth is fully inserted.
16. Inspect the edges of the cloth insert for uniform appearance.
17. Clean away any extra adhesive that may have accumulated on the door finisher or cloth insert. Adhesive can be removed from the door finisher by simply rubbing it off with clean hands. If there is adhesive on the cloth insert, use a small amount of Nissan Fabric Cleaner (P/N 999MP-A3080) on a clean cloth to remove it from the insert.
18. Repeat Steps 1 through 17 for all doors which need repair.
