Theft Warning System Cannot Be Set By Lock/Unlock Switch

THEFT WARNING SYSTEM CANNOT BE SET BY LOCK/UNLOCK SWITCH

System Description
To arm the system one of the following conditions must be met:
- Trunk and hood closed, and all doors closed with ignition switch in OFF position, and then smart entrance control unit receives LOCK signal from key cylinder switch or multi-remote controller.
- Any door (including hood and trunk lid) open with ignition switch in OFF position and front doors locked by key, lock/unlock switch or multi-remote controller, and then door closed.
When the above conditions are met, the security indicator lamp will illuminate for 30 seconds. (This is the pre- armed phase.) After about 30 seconds, the system will automatically shift to armed condition. The security
indicator lamp will then begin blinking every 2.6 seconds.
To cancel the theft warning system one of the following must be done:
- Unlock the doors with the key or multi-remote controller.
- Open the trunk lid with the key or multi-remote controller.
When the theft warning system is armed, the alarm will activate if any of the following conditions are met:
- Engine hood, trunk lid or any door opened before canceling armed phase.
- Disconnecting the battery connector and connecting the connector before canceling armed phase.
When the alarm is activated, the headlamps flash and horn sounds intermittently for 50 seconds.

Possible Cause
- Lock/unlock switch
- Circuit open or short

Diagnostic Repair Procedure (for confirmed incidents)

a. Check circuits between smart entrance control unit and door lock/unlock switch: Continuity/No shorts to ground.
b. Check ground circuit between door lock/unlock switch and ground: Continuity.
c. Door lock/unlock switch component test: Check continuity between each door lock/unlock terminals. See illustration.
