Tie Rod: Testing and Inspection

1. Check outer and inner tie rod ball joints sockets for:
- swinging force "A".
- rotating torque "B".
- axial end play "C".





Inner Joint:
Swinging Force "A" [2]: 6.4 - 50.0 N (1.44 - 11.24 lbs.)
Axial End Play "C": 0 mm (0 inch)
Outer Joint:
Swinging Force "A" [1]: 6.59 - 63.7 N (1.481 - 14.320 lbs.)
Turning (Rotating) Torque "B": 0.3 - 2.9 Nm (2.6 - 26.0 ft. lbs.)
Axial End Play "C": 0.5 mm (0.020 inch) or less


2. Check condition of dust cover. If cracked excessively, replace outer tie rod.

[2]: Measuring point "l" = 172 mm (6.77 inch).
