Evaporative Emission Control Canister: Description and Operation

Carbon Canister- NON-Turbocharged Models:

PURPOSE
The Carbon Canister is a device for storing fuel vapor.

OPERATION
The canister contains activated charcoal that absorbs and stores fuel vapor. When vacuum is applied to the purge control valve on top of the canister, fuel vapors are drawn into the intake manifold and burned.
