Suspension Spring ( Coil / Leaf ): Service and Repair

REPLACE

Fig. 5 Exploded View Of Rear Suspension.:

1. Raise and support vehicle.
2. Disconnect brake line and parking brake cable.
3. Remove upper and lower strut attaching nuts and/or bolts Fig. 5, then the strut assembly.
4. Reverse procedure to install.

SERVICE

1. Set strut assembly in vise using holding tool No. ST35652000 or equivalent.
2. Loosen, do not remove, piston rod locknut.
3. Compress coil spring, using spring compression tool No. HT71780000 or equivalent, so that strut upper spring seat can be turned by hand.
4. Remove piston locknut.
5. Remove strut assembly components.
6. Reverse procedure to assemble, noting the following:
a. When installing coil spring, use care not to reverse top and bottom direction, Fig. 6.
b. When installing spring on strut, position as shown in Fig. 7.
c. When installing upper spring seat, position as shown in Fig. 8.
