Power Steering Bleeding: Service and Repair

NOTE: Before bleeding air from HICAS system, ensure air is bleed from the power steering system as described in Power Steering System Bleed.

USING CONSULT TOOL
1. Place shift lever in Park on models with automatic transmissions or Neutral on models with manual transmissions.
2. Have an assistant inside vehicle then raise and support vehicle in such a way to allow all four wheel to spin freely.
3. Connect consult tool to diagnostic connector and start engine.
4. Tough START on consult tool display.
5. Touch HICAS, ACTIVE TEST and SIMULATED DRIVE in that order.
6. Touch START when MAIN SIGNALS displayed is reversed.
7. Connect a clear hose to the right and left power cylinder bleeder valve and place the other into a container of clean fluid.
8. Touch start.
9. Operate engine at speeds greater than 2000 RPM and turn steering wheel 180° to the right from the neutral position.
10. Loosen right power cylinder bleeder valve to bleed air, then retighten valve.
11. Return steering wheel to neutral position.
12. Repeat steps 9 through 11 turning steering wheel to left.
13. Repeat steps 9 through 12 until there are no air bubbles in fluid. While bleeding air from power cylinders, never allow fluid level to drop below inlet port of reservoir tank.
14. Tough CANCEL on Consult tool and turn engine Off.

USING HICAS WARNING LIGHT
1. Have an assistant inside vehicle then raise and support vehicle in such a way to allow all four wheel to spin freely.
2. Place HICAS system in self diagnosis as follow
a. Turn ignition switch to Off position.
b. Place shift lever in Park on models with automatic transmissions or Neutral on models with manual transmissions.
c. Turn ignition switch to On position and immediately start engine.
d. Turn steering wheel from left to right at least 20° from the neutral position five times or more then depress foot brake pedal at least five times within 10 seconds after ignition switch has been turned On.

3. Connect a clear hose to the right and left power cylinder bleeder valve and the other end into a container of clean fluid.
4. Place steering wheel within 10° from the neutral position and check to ensure rear wheels turn to the left and right alternately.
5. Operate engine at idle speeds and turn steering wheel 180° to right from the neutral position.
6. Loosen right power cylinder bleeder valve to bleed air, then retighten valve.
7. Return steering wheel to neutral position.
8. Repeat steps 4 through 7 turning steering wheel to left.
9. Repeat steps 4 through 8 until there are no air bubbles in fluid. While bleeding air from power cylinders, never allow fluid level to drop below inlet port of reservoir tank.
10. Turn ignition switch to Off position to complete self diagnosis operation.
