Evaporative Emission Control Canister: Description and Operation
Carbon Canister:
PURPOSE
The Charcoal Canister is a device for storing fuel vapor.
LOCATION
Front of the engine compartment, near the air cleaner assembly .
OPERATION
The canister contains activated charcoal that absorbs and stores fuel vapor. When vacuum is applied to the purge control valve on top of the canister, fuel vapors are drawn into the intake manifold and burned.
