Clutch Pedal Assembly: Adjustments

HYDRAULIC OPERATED CLUTCH

The clutch hydraulic system must be bled whenever a clutch line has been disconnected or when air has entered the system. The bleed valve is located on the clutch operating cylinder.

1. Measure clutch pedal height from floor panel to center of clutch pedal, Fig. 10, dimension H. Clutch pedal height should be as specified. Adjust clutch pedal height by adjusting the pedal stopper. After completing adjustment, tighten locknut.
2. Measure clutch pedal freeplay as shown in Fig. 10, dimension A. Clutch pedal freeplay should be as specified. Adjust clutch pedal freeplay by rotating the clutch master cylinder inward or outward until the specified freeplay is obtained. After completing freeplay adjustment, tighten locknut. Clutch pedal freeplay is the sum of play between the clevis pin and clevis pin hole and play between the piston and piston rod.
3. After the above adjustments have been completed, cycle clutch pedal several times to ensure that clutch linkage operates smoothly without binding.

Stanza

1. Adjust clutch pedal height ``H,'' Fig. 10, to 6.73-7.13 inches (171-181 mm) by turning clutch switch or pedal stopper, then torque clutch switch locknut to 9-11 ft. lbs. or pedal stopper locknut to 14-19 ft. lbs.
2. Adjust pedal freeplay ``A,'' Fig. 10, to .04-.12 inch (1-3 mm) by turning pushrod, then torque pushrod locknut to 5.8-8 ft. lbs.

3. Adjust clearance ``C,'' Fig. 14, between pedal stopper rubber and threaded end of clutch interlock switch to .039-.079 inch (1-2 mm) while depressing clutch pedal fully.
