Back Door Outside Finisher:
APPLIED MODEL: 1987 Stanza Hatchback
SERVICE INFORMATION
The back door outside finisher of some early production 1987 Stanza Hatchback vehicles may not be aligned with the rear combination lamps (Figure 1). If the horizontal lines on the finisher do not line up with the lines on the rear combination lamps, use the following Service Procedure to correct this incident.
Back Door Window:
SERVICE PROCEDURE
1. Remove the welt from the bottom of the back door window (inside) (Figure 2).
2. Remove the back door inside finisher by removing the 4 visible clips and then pulling on the finisher to detach the 6 hidden clips (Figure 2).
3. Remove the back door outside finisher (reflector) by removing the 17 nuts and prying loose the double-sided tape. Remove the old tape from the finisher.
Finisher:
4. Apply new double-sided tape to the finisher as shown in Figure 3. Do not remove door-side protective peel at this time.
5. Reinstall the outside finisher on the back door using only the lower 4 nuts. Do not tighten them fully.
Back Door Outside Finisher:
6. Close the back door and adjust the finisher so that the horizontal lines of the finisher and rear combination lamps are aligned (Figure 1).
7. Check the alignment of the lock cylinder in the finisher access hole. If the alignment is poor and the key cannot be installed, the lock cylinder must be adjusted as described in step 8.
Lock Cylinder:
8. To adjust the lock cylinder, remove the outside finisher and then remove the lock cylinder from the back door. Using a file, elongate the 2 mounting holes and cylinder hole so that the cylinder will line up with the hole in the finisher (Figure 4). Clean the holes and apply Nissan Tectyl Rust Preventive (P/N 99990-10070) or equivalent to holes. Reinstall the lock cylinder.
9. Reposition the outside finisher and check the alignment of the horizontal lines of the rear combination lamps and finisher.
10. Remove the protective peel on the double-sided tape and install the 17 mounting nuts. NOTE: Tighten the 5 upper nuts last as they will tend to pull the finisher up.
11. Check finisher alignment.
12. Reinstall the back door inside finisher.
13. Reinstall the back door window welt.
