Cruise Test ... Part 1









III. CRUISE TEST
Check all items listed in Parts 1 through 3.


Without CONSULT-II
Throttle position sensor can be checked by measuring voltage across terminals 41 and 42 of TCM.



Cruise Test..........................Part 1


1. CHECK STARTING GEAR (D1) POSITION
1. Drive vehicle for approximately 10 minutes to warm engine oil and ATF up to operating temperature.

ATF operating temperature:................50 - 80°C (122 - 176°F)


2. Park vehicle on flat surface.







3. Set overdrive control switch to ON position.
4. Move selector lever to P position.
5. Start engine.







6. Move selector lever to D position.







7. Accelerate vehicle by constantly depressing accelerator pedal halfway.
8. Does vehicle start from D1?
Read gear position.

Yes or No?

Yes >> GO TO 2.

No >> Go to "8. Vehicle Cannot Be Started From D1" Vehicle Cannot Be Started From D1.







2. CHECK SHIFT UP (D1 TO D2)
Does A/T shift from D1 to D2 at the specified speed?
Read gear position, throttle opening and vehicle speed.


VEHICLE SPEED WHEN SHIFTING GEARS THROTTLE POSITION:




VEHICLE SPEED WHEN PERFORMING AND RELEASING LOCK-UP:






See specified speed when shifting from D1 to D2.

Yes or No?

Yes >> GO TO 3.

No >> Go to "9. A/T Does Not Shift: D1 -> D2 Or Does Not Kickdown: D4 -> D2". A/T Does Not Shift: D->D2 or Does Not Kickdown: D4->D2


3. CHECK SHIFT UP (D2 TO D3)





VEHICLE SPEED WHEN SHIFTING GEARS THROTTLE POSITION:




VEHICLE SPEED WHEN PERFORMING AND RELEASING LOCK-UP:






Does A/T shift from D2 to D3 at the specified speed?
Read gear position, throttle opening and vehicle speed.

Yes or No?

Yes >> GO TO 4.

No >> Go to "10. A/T Does Not Shift: D2 -> D3" A/T Does Not Shift: D2->D3.


4. CHECK SHIFT UP (D3 TO D4)





VEHICLE SPEED WHEN SHIFTING GEARS THROTTLE POSITION:




VEHICLE SPEED WHEN PERFORMING AND RELEASING LOCK-UP:






Does A/T shift from D3 to D4 at the specified speed?
Read gear position, throttle opening and vehicle speed.

Yes or No?

Yes >> GO TO 5.

No >> Go to "11. A/T Does Not Shift: D3 -> D4" A/T Does Not Shift: D3->D4.


5. CHECK LOCK-UP (D4 TO D4 L/U)





VEHICLE SPEED WHEN SHIFTING GEARS THROTTLE POSITION:




VEHICLE SPEED WHEN PERFORMING AND RELEASING LOCK-UP:






Does A/T perform lock-up at the specified speed?
Read vehicle speed, throttle position when lock-up duty becomes 94%.

Yes or No?

Yes >> GO TO 6.

No >> Go to "12. A/T Does Not Perform Lock-up" A/T Does Not Perform Lock-Up.


6. CHECK HOLD LOCK-UP
Does A/T hold lock-up condition for more than 30 seconds?

Yes or No?

Yes >> GO TO 7.

No >> Go to "13. A/T Does Not Hold Lock-up Condition" A/T Does Not Hold Lock-Up Condition.


7. CHECK LOCK-UP OFF (D4 L/U TO D4)
1. Release accelerator pedal.







2. Is lock-up released when accelerator pedal is released?

Yes or No?

Yes >> GO TO 8.

No >> Go to "14. Lock-up Is Not Released" Lock-Up Is Not Released.


8. CHECK SHIFT DOWN (D4 TO D3)
1. Decelerate vehicle by applying foot brake lightly.







2. Does engine speed return to idle smoothly when A/T is shifted from D4 to D3?
Read gear position and engine speed.

Yes or No?

Yes >>
1. Stop vehicle.
2. Go to "Cruise Test.....Part 2".

No >> Go to "15. Engine Speed Does Not Return To Idle (Light Braking D4 -> D3 )" Engine Speed Does Not Return to Idle.
