Procedure A: ABS Sensor Hole Inspection
1. Place the vehicle on a hoist, lift the vehicle and remove the rear wheels.2. Apply some penetrating lubricant to the ABS sensor hold-down bolt.
3. Remove the ABS sensor hold-down bolt.
^ Then remove the ABS sensor from the rear axle housing by carefully rotating it by hand to loosen it (see Figure A1).
^ If the sensor feels stuck in the axle housing, carefully rotate the sensor with a 22 mm open-end wrench to free it.
CAUTION:
Do NOT pull on the sensor by the wire.
NOTE:
It you break a bolt(s) when removing the ABS sensors, perform "Procedure F: ABS Sensor Broken Bolt Removal" after steps 3 and 4, below.
4. Remove and discard the old 0-ring from the ABS sensor (see Figure A2).
NOTE:
Some vehicles may already have white sealant. Carefully remove all traces of this sealant from the sensor and the hole in the axle.
5. Inspect the ABS Sensor hole for corrosion. See Figure A3.
6. Return to the "Repair Flow Chart" for further instructions.
