INTRODUCTION

The child safety lock lever on the 2000 Frontier Crew Cab model may be accessible by someone with very small fingers from inside the vehicle. To ensure customer satisfaction and to prevent any accidental defeating of the child safety lock function, Nissan has initiated a Voluntary Service Campaign to provide child safety lock lever protectors to owners of 2000 Frontier Crew Cab model vehicles.

Some owners may require assistance with the installation of the child safety lock lever protectors. They have been instructed to contact the nearest Nissan dealership to schedule an appointment. A copy of the Owner Notification Letter is included in this bulletin.

Nissan will mail a set of lock protectors to every Crew Cab owner along with installation instructions. We expect the majority of consumers to install these parts without dealer assistance.

Every dealer will automatically receive an ample supply of lock protectors from their facing PDC prior to the consumer mailing date for consumers (or inventory units) who may require them.

IDENTIFICATION NUMBER

Nissan has assigned identification number P0126 to this campaign. This number must appear on all communications and documentation of any nature dealing with this Campaign.

NUMBER OF VEHICLES POTENTIALLY AFFECTED

The number of vehicles potentially affected is approximately 45,000.

DEALER RESPONSIBILITY

Nissan recommends that dealers correct each vehicle falling within the range of this campaign that enters the service department. This includes vehicles purchased from private parties or presented by transient (tourist) owners and vehicles in a dealer's inventory. Utilize Service Comm to identify affected vehicles.

SERVICE PROCEDURE

1. With the wide portion of the door lock protector facing toward the inside of the vehicle, press the protector into place in the door lock lever opening. It should snap firmly into its location (see Figure 1).

NOTE:
Make sure to install the door lock protector facing toward the inside of the vehicle (toward the door trim panel) as shown in Figure 1.

DO NOT INSTALL THE LOCK LEVER PROTECTOR WITH IT FACING AWAY

FROM THE INSIDE OF THE VEHICLE. Doing so would defeat the function of the lock lever protector.

PARTS INFORMATION

NOTE:
Each vehicle requires installation of 2 pieces of the Cover, Child Lock, Nissan Part Number 82527-9Z300. This part is supplied in a pack containing 10 individual pieces. The minimum order quantity is therefore 10 pieces. If the quantity ordered is 10, 10 pieces (one pack) will be shipped. If 12 pieces are ordered, 20 pieces (2 packs) will be shipped.

Because the Cover, Child Lock is shipped in a pack quantity of 10 pieces, dealers are encouraged not to order excess quantities. Over ordering of the Cover, Child Lock may deplete PDC supplies. Since this is a voluntary service campaign, we want to ensure that all dealers have an adequate supply of the Cover, Child Lock to meet the needs of the customer.
